In my last blog, I talked about the launch of CityLive in Manchester, where 20 giant touchscreen kiosks were installed in the city centre. It’s been great to receive positive feedback from MediaCo, who we worked with on the project, about how the network has been working and how the screens have been received.
While managing the CityLive network, I’ve been able to see how screens like these are shaping the future of DOOH, particularly in the way they engage shoppers and passers-by.
One way in which this has been done is through the innovative use of apps. We’re used to apps on our phones and tablets, but not used to seeing them on giant screens in a city centre, allowing us to interact with them.
One app, released in the run up to Christmas, allowed people to use the screens to take their pictures and add festive accessories to themselves, such as reindeer antlers, Santa hats and party hats. Judging by the pictures I’ve seen, which were automatically posted to Manchester City Council’s Facebook page, it certainly brought a smile to a lot of people’s faces.
As well as being a bit of festive fun, this app is just one of many examples of how CityLive is driving DOOH forward. And trust me, if you think that’s exciting, there’s more to come…
