The challenge

During the Olympic Games, Westfield Stratford wanted shoppers to feel part of the Games by putting the public's tweets on screen across the centre. That included the five-tonne, 102-screen double-sided video wall outside John Lewis.

Every message had to be moderated, safe and on screen fast. Esprit Digital brought FTP Concepts in as a key technical partner.

What we did

We designed and delivered a campaign management system that gathered tweets from Westfield's own accounts and from the public using targeted hashtags such as #iwasthere and #East.

Everything flowed into one moderation interface, so Esprit and Westfield could choose what to publish and push it across every screen in the centre in moments, the giant wall included.

The result

  • Two awards for Esprit: the EMEA InAVation Award for the most interactive digital signage project, and the Digital Screenmedia Association Award of Excellence for best retail deployment.
  • 102 screens in one double-sided wall, the largest LCD video wall in Europe at the time.
